Description

This trail takes you around Lake Boren, which extends for about 35 km. Boren has its inflow from Vättern at Motala stream and has good water quality. There are many beautiful places around Boren that connect Borensberg with Motala.

One of these places is Birgittas Udde. Here are the ruins of the settlement where St. Birgitta lived and worked. Here you can enjoy the view out over Boren under lush deciduous trees. The trail also goes past Ulvåsa Castle with a castle park down to the water that is open to the public. The lush park that surrounds the castle together with the scenic location next to Boren adds further dimensions to the greatness of Ulvåsa. The tour will also take you past the church of Ekebyborna and the Old Rectory on the shores of Boren. You will also paddle past the Sjöbo-Knäppan nature reserve where the beach is buzzing with life. During the spring, Boren's beaches boil with spawning frogs and the brown marsh harrier can be seen hunting over the reeds during the summer months. Sjöbo-Knäppan offers a fantastic nature along Boren's beach with the possibility of swimming, barbecue and rest areas. The tour also takes you past Borensberg where you can have an ice cream before you paddle on. If you want to stay in Borensberg for the night, there are also accommodation options and several eateries. There is also the beautiful Strandbadet with both sandy beach and large lawn.

Boren also connects Borensberg and Borenshult, where both the town and the place get their name from the lake. When you paddle past Borenshult, you can look at Borenshult's locks, a popular destination, which connects the Göta Canal with Lake Boren. Borenshult's locks offer daily action during the summer when Göta Canal boat guests make their way up or down the five locks. The difference in height between the lake and the canal is about 15 meters, making the lock staircase the steepest lock on the canal.

In addition to these attractions, there are several other areas and nature reserves along the lake that also offer picnic areas with both barbecue and swimming facilities.
