Bärstakärret naturreservat

Bärstakärrets nature reserve is located at the southeastern bay of Lake Yngaren. Orchids bloom here in summer!

Bärstakärret was formed by the lowering of Lake Yngaren in the 1860s, when a strip of shore at Bärsta became visible, as well as springs that had previously flowed into the lake bed. The water from the springs is calcareous and filters over the reclaimed area, which has thus developed into a rich marsh of great botanical interest.

Orchids bloom here in summer

Several rare species are found in the reserve. For example, you can see the small orchids Mosquito Lilies and Green Gillyflowers and the wild shrub Bockthorn, which blooms with beautiful purple flowers in June-July. The ground can be very wet and the easiest way to get around is to use the footpath that runs from the parking lot into the reserve.
