Description
Prästaskogen is a scenic area with beautiful old oak forests reminiscent of old-time pastures. The most valuable features of the forest are old and wide-crowned oaks and beeches. The Hallandsleden trail and other paths run through the area. There is a trail in the reserve that has been adapted for accessibility so that everyone can enjoy the surroundings.
The reserve is located along Krokån just north of Knäred. A large part of the reserve is overgrown with oak forest that is characterized by a former outfield pasture. The valuable features of old and wide-crowned oaks are sparsely scattered in the reserve, old and coarse pasture beech and old aspen, birch and pine.
The broadleaf forest is important for many species
A large part of the reserve is a key biotope and a number of species that are currently red-listed or of regional interest have been found in the area. Several of the red-listed species are dependent on old broadleaf trees for their survival. Krokån meanders through the area
The reserve is beautifully situated by the Krokån river, which has a winding and rushing course with swimming opportunities in the rapids. The natural values in Krokån are high. The bottom fauna is valuable here, with thirteen regionally interesting species of mainly caddisflies. Krokån forms a series of rapids and falls, such as Kvarnfallen. Krokån has the character of an almost unaffected water with a wilderness feel, lots of stones and its rich blockiness. The river is sometimes flowing and sometimes calm. After many years of liming, the fish stocks have recovered and nowadays there are both a stationary stock of trout and minnow in the system.
Accessibility in the reserve
The high natural values, cultural-historical values and the beautiful location next to the Krokån river also make the reserve an interesting place to visit. Both the Hallandsleden trail and other trails run through the area, and one of the trails has been adapted for accessibility so that everyone can enjoy the surroundings. In some places there are benches and bench tables placed. There are also barbecues where you can prepare your packed lunch.

Regulations

- camping for more than two consecutive days
- have a caravan or motorhome parked in the reserve at 22-06,
- bring an unleashed dog and
- use traps that kill invertebrates without the permission of the County Administrative Board,
- organize camps, competitions or other events without the permission of the County Administrative Board,
- planting species alien to the area without the permission of the County Administrative Board, and
- without the permission of the County Administrative Board, carry out surveys that involve marking, collection, trapping or other impact on the natural environment.
