Description
Tyresta Forest first attracted attention in 1929, when the owner at the time, Ivar Kreuger, planned large-scale felling. The felling was stopped and in 1936 the City of Stockholm was persuaded to buy the forest in order to preserve it for the future. In the 1970s, it was proposed that the primeval forest should become a nature reserve. In 1986, the Tyresta-Åva area was set aside as a nature reserve after six years as an inter-hermitage reserve. On September 13, 1993, Tyresta National Park was inaugurated, consisting of the primeval forest part of the area plus the western part of the Åva property.
The area of the nature reserve: 2730 hectares, of which 330 hectares are water areas.
