Description
Långängen-Elfviks nature reserve is 702 hectares and is located in the central and eastern part of Lidingö. The reserve extends from Mölna on the southern half of the island to Södergarn and Elfviks udde on the northern half of the island. The reserve covers a varied landscape with forests, lakes, stretches of coastline, grasslands and farmland with great importance for both experience values and biodiversity. There are high natural values here, including areas with old broadleaf trees, pastures, hay meadows, wetlands and older coniferous forests.
The Nature Map describes six outdoor areas, which are largely in the reserve, in more detail: Mölna-Brevik, Kottla-Långängen and Koltorp-Ekholmsnäs in the southern part and Hustegaholm-Gråviken, Södergarn-Fågelöudde and Östra Elfvik in the northern part of Långängen-Elfvik nature reserve.
Långängen nature reserve (then called a nature conservation area) was established in 1981 by decision of the Stockholm County Administrative Board. In 2006, the City of Lidingö decided to extend the reserve, which became Långängen-Elfvik Nature Reserve. In 2023, the reserve was extended again from 440 hectares to 702 hectares. The purpose of the reserve is to ensure access to areas for outdoor recreation and to care for valuable natural, cultural and aquatic environments.
