Description

Munkleden is a historical trail that invites you to a pleasant walk along the beach of Öljaren, in Julita. The trail is about 1 kilometer long and marked with signs, which tell about the time of the monks.

Munkleden is the path that the monks walked between Julita monastery and Julita church. This path is said to have been very important for more than a hundred years, and was most likely used throughout the monastery's 350-year history.

The monks traveled on the water along the banks of the river Öljaren and in winter on the ice, but they also walked in prayer and meditation, and the road between the church and the monastery was trodden over the centuries by thousands of pious feet.
