Description
Tåkern is one of the most important bird lakes in northern Europe.
To date, 278 bird species have been seen at the lake. Around 130 bird species breed in the reserve. Examples include the black-headed gull, brown harrier and thrush. Rarities such as the black tern also nest here.
Tåkern's coastal meadows cover just over 450 hectares. The coastal meadows are so-called lime meadows with a very rich flora. There are mayweeds and a number of orchids, such as marsh marigolds, meadow lilies and honey flowers.
Tåkern is one of Östergötland's most visited nature reserves and there are many facilities for visitors. Around the lake there are four visitor areas; Glänås, Hov, Svälinge and Väversunda. Visit the county council website for more information.
