Description
There was a person in Sya who was interested in the local area called David Skärstrand. His hometown was close to his heart. He wrote down a lot about daily events, occupations and crafts. He also collected old tools and wrote down their history and use. His wish was that there would be a homestead. When the Meltorp farm was put up for sale, he gathered the locals for a meeting. At the meeting in 1947, it was decided that a local history society would be formed and that the society would buy Meltorp. Today, the farm is supplemented with several buildings and the local community association is active with, among other things, a summer café.

Facts
The history of Sya parish is largely based on the findings of Oscar Bohm in his book "Från okänt land till hembygd". Ancient artifacts such as stone axes have been found, and are estimated to be from the Neolithic Age, that is, 2000-1500 BC. The villages of Hydinge and Peplinge are thought to date from the Late Iron Age, 500-1000 AD. The first church on the site where the church now stands was probably built sometime in the 13th century. According to old records, it was of modest size, 14.6 m in length and 5.4 m wide. From 1561 there is information that there were 19 farms that paid tithes. 1773-74 the church was rebuilt. When the great emigration to America took place, 118 men and 102 women left the town.
The rule was that the eldest son took over the farm and the other siblings received virtually nothing. They had to work as farmhands and maids on the larger farms. Many were tempted to save in order to leave the country for a better future in America. In some cases, relatives or acquaintances were already there to take care of them.
The eastern main line from Linköping to Mjölby opened for traffic on September 15, 1873, but there was no station at Sya. The station was opened in July 1880. The double track was completed in 1916. In connection with the completion of the double track, Sya got a new station house.
