Description

The hike towards Glotternskogen offers striking coal mine nature and starts by choosing the route through the round loop Åttan, depending on the choice of route, the stage will be between 12 km and 17 km long. The trail passes Hammarbacken, where you can see remnants of the activity that was carried out, in the form of bar iron hammers, house foundations, stone walls and dam walls.

At the western shore of Näken, you pass Rödberget with its dramatic rock wall. This is where the red Graversfors granite was once quarried, which became nationally famous and was also exported.

Just after the railroad crossing, the trail passes north of Lake Näknen and then over road 55/56. After another 2 km, the trail goes north of Lake Övre Herrgölen and you have now entered the Glotternskogen nature reserve. The trail then goes out on a gravel road and after 400 meters you can choose the direction of the round loop - Glotternskogen runt - down to the southern parts of the reserve and the finish of the stage.

There are more difficult passages, stairs and ropes in the south along Nedre Glottern and footbridges in the northern part of Glotternskogen Nature Reserve. The trail between the nature reserve's parking lot in the south and the windbreak at Karlsdal, Nedre Glottern, is accessible.
