Description

At Ruda bridge there is a nice little rest area with weather protection, a firesite and outdoor toilet. The rest area is not far from Göta Kanal, along the Östgötaleden trail between Borensberg and Berg. Here is a privy run by Göta kanalbolag.

Down by Norrbysjön there is a simple bathing place, but it is not own by the municipality.

Ruda, this bridge has a span of 7.5 meters. It is 15 meters long and 3.5 meters wide. According to information, it was manufactured in Motala and can withstand a load of 2.5 tonnes. From Ruda, the bridges in Näs, Kungs Norrby, Sörby, Sjöbacka and Ljungs västra are also operated. The new bridge keeper's cottage in Ruda was completed in 1930 and in 1999 it underwent a complete renovation. However, the older cottage remains. It is one of the oldest canal houses preserved. The old bridge guard house was built during the first half of the 19th century.

Facts

When Karl Uno Fagerström left as a lock guard in Borensberg in 1977, an era went to the grave. As early as 1890, Carl Fredrik Konrad Fagerström had started as a bridge guard in Ruda. He worked until 1920 when the next Fagerström took over. Karl Rudolf Fagerström was a guard at the old bridge until his death in 1942. The next man at the controls was his son Karl Uno. In 1962, the last Fagerström was moved to Borensberg where he stayed until 1977. Between the years 1890 and 1962, ie for 72 years, there was a Fagerström in place in Ruda.
