In a contemporary adaptation of the classic The Lady of the Camellias, soccer dad Andreas meets drag queen Marcus. They fall madly in love, and Andreas decides to follow his heart and leave his wife and children. Andreas’s wife finds out about the relationship and tries to be magnanimous and not judge him. But it’s difficult; she thinks about the consequences. What neither of them knows is that Marcus has cancer and that his days are numbered. The Lady of the Camellias, loosely based on Alexandre Dumas the Younger’s novel and adapted for the stage by Sunil Munshi, is a beautiful and emotionally charged production filled with warm humor and poignant encounters. A reminder that life is too short not to dare to follow one’s dreams and live passionately. Through the play, we find courage—the courage to live. To the fullest. As the complex beings that we are. Director Sunil Munshi, most recently seen at the Riksteatern with “The Mothers,” has over the years garnered attention for his highly visual, avant-garde, and—not least—humorous productions that have enjoyed great success on the theater stage.Andreas is played by Jakob Eklund, known for his work at Dramaten, the film Änglagård, and the Johan Falk series, among others. In the role of Marcus, we see Jacob Ericksson, known as Christer Malm in the film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series and the TV series Fröken Friman’s War. We know Evamaria Björk from the acclaimed productions A Year of Magical Thinking, A Very Special Day, and Joan of Arc.

A co-production between the Riksteatern and Helsingborg City Theater.
