The Möckeln–Åsnen Tour has been developed through a feasibility study supported by Leader Linné Småland and IKEA Älmhult AB.

Description

Möckeln–Åsnen Tour connects Åsnen National Park with the cultural landscape of Linnaeus’s home region, passing beautiful lakes, historic settings and popular attractions such as Huseby Bruk, the IKEA Museum and Råshult.

There are plenty of places to stay overnight and enjoy a meal – everything from hotels, glamping and restaurants to nature campsites, local shops and cafés.

The tour consists of three sections:

The tour is accessible by train, with stations in Älmhult, Diö and Vislanda. You can also combine cycling with train travel by riding shorter stretches between Älmhult–Diö–Vislanda and taking the train back to your starting point.

In Ryd

In Ryd, you can stock up on provisions at ICA Nära Ryd and Ryds kiosk. Several accommodation options are also nearby, as well as Åsnen National Park.

The stretch Ryd–Älmhult

You begin this stage by cycling west from the centre of Ryd, then turning north onto Ramnäsvägen. Follow Ramnäsvägen all the way to Road 120, where you turn east (signposted towards Tingsryd) and cycle for about 500 metres before turning north (signposted towards Karsemåla and the local heritage centre).

After a while, you will cycle along a beautiful road beside Lake Krampen. The tour then continues west along smaller roads, and eventually you reach Häradsbäck.

In Häradsbäck, there is a local shop and service point where you can enjoy lunch, have a coffee or stock up on provisions.

After your stop in Häradsbäck, cycle back east and continue north along Vashultsvägen. In Bohult, turn left and continue west towards Virestad.

In Virestad, you can stop for a coffee at Langes and visit Virestad heritage park. The park is located in the middle of the village and hosts various activities throughout the year, including a large Midsummer celebration.

As you leave Virestad and continue west, you pass the beautiful agricultural landscape of the Virestad plain. You cycle across the bridge over the lake, and in Sedingehult the forest opens up into a scenic cultural landscape.

The journey continues south-west, and on your way towards Älmhult you cross the Helge River on a charming old stone bridge. Eventually, you reach Road 120 – here you should turn west and follow the road for about 100 metres before turning south towards Vakö Mire.

Just outside Älmhult, turn onto Elmiers väg and ride onto a smooth bridge that takes you over Road 23 and onwards into the town centre along an easy and pleasant route.

In Älmhult

In Älmhult, you can visit the world’s only IKEA Museum, and if the weather is nice, take a swim at Bökhult lakeside beach or Möckeln bathing area.

There are also two bike repair shops – Waltherssons and Punkan at Café Muff – if your bike needs a bit of care.

When it’s time to sleep, you can check in at IKEA Hotell in the town centre, pitch your tent at the peaceful Destination Möckeln, or stay at First Camp Sjöstugan.
