Karl-Oskar Cottage by Hästebäck

The grill cottage by the brook is privately funded and was built by Marita and Olle in 2004 when they were working in the forest and discovered this lovely spot along an old riding path that was used in the 1200s and 1300s for the lawmen to travel between Kalmar and the meeting place in Ingelsta. It is said that Wilhelm Moberg also walked the same path when, as a young boy, he accompanied his father to Åkerby to collect his soldier's pay. Perhaps the path was fresh in Moberg's mind when he created a fictional route for Karl-Oskar to meet Kristina in Duvemåla. The cottage is made from timber sourced from the surrounding forest and is open to visitors seeking shelter or a rest. Outside, there are tables and benches for enjoying a snack.
