Description

On the riverbank of Alsterån can you find one of Uppviding’s little gems, Höneström. This really feels like an idyll with a beautiful landscape where the river meanders through open meadows and deep forests. If you come here in the spring can you find one of Kronoberg’s rarest, and most beautiful, flower the Lady of the snows (Pulsatilla vernalis). In the summer will the meadow be painted in yellow by the Mountain arnica (Arnica montana).

The dam attracts many types of birds so bring your binoculars! If your more interested in butterflies can you look for the mourning cloak (Nymphalis antiopa) with its big velvet brown wings which makes it easy to distinguish from other butterflies. It likes to live close to the dam like the grass snake (Natrix natrix) and the viviparous lizard (Zootoca vivipara, formerly Lacerta vivipara).

If you visit Höneström in the winter can you, if you're lucky, maybe see otter which like to hunt and play in Alsterån.
