Description

There is a lot to see and do on Svinö! Take a long forest walk along the path that winds around the island. From the path you can make detours down to the sea, where there are flower-rich beach meadows and bathing areas. The birdlife on and around the island is rich, so no matter what time of year you come here, there's always something to see.

Forest with foreign guests

The forest on Svinö is mainly coniferous, but also birch, willow and oak. If you come across trees or shrubs that you do not recognize, it is no wonder. Among the pines and spruces there are many foreign species such as blue spruce, weymouth pine and banksia pine. The foreign trees were probably planted during the period when there were summer cottages on Svinö.

Watch birds

On Svinö you can watch birds all year round. During spring and fall, large flocks of birds pass through the strait. Many of the birds stop on the island, both in the forest and on the beaches. In early summer, you can see the spectacular mating dance of the great crested grebe, which ends with the pair rising chest to chest. And in the forest, chaffinches, warblers and robins hold concerts. In winter, it can be worthwhile to look out over the water. Perhaps you'll see a curlew among all the wagtails, goldeneyes and eiders?

Exciting remains

On the northern headland are the remains of a redoubt built by the Danes in the 17th century. The purpose of the redoubt was to control the sailing channel through Kalmarsund. In the south there is another remains, a large flat stone called Kungabordet. According to tradition, Karl XI ate at this stone block, hence the name.
