The hunting season is underway in the forest! Elk hunting takes place between October 8th, and January 31st.

Please pay close attention to signs indicating that hunting is in progress. You are always welcome to hike on our trails, but if hunting is taking place in the area, we encourage you to choose a different location.

Here are some tips during the hunting period:

  • Respect all signs indicating that hunting is in progress.
  • Wear bright-colored clothing to make yourself visible.
  • Stick to the designated trails.
  • If you encounter a hunter, try to make contact to determine if it's safe to continue. This can be done with a brief whistle, a wave, or, of course, by speaking to each other if possible.

Description

The fifth stage of the trail starts at the overnight cottage in Mörtfors and initially follows the beautiful Marströmmen and then passes the E22. Something that is good to keep in mind is that this stage is physically demanding at times but oh so beautiful. At beautiful Hålviken, the hiker reaches the Baltic Sea for the first time. Once upon a time there was a shipping port for stone here. Remains of the old wooden quay still exist. This is also the northernmost point of the trail. From Hålvik, the hike follows the old railway embankment for about a kilometer to the quarries in Kallsebo. Smoothly polished rocks here bear witness to the Ice Age, the last remnants of which disappeared from northern Sweden 10,000 years ago. Eventually, you will come to a large ship-shaped rock formation and burial cairns directly on the rocky mountain at Snäckedal. The burial ground consists of no less than 30 ancient remains. Just beyond the farm Arvidsmåla, you pass a large and strange mountain, popularly known as Trollklinten. The trail continues and crosses the road towards Adriansnäs and shortly afterwards the road between Misterhult and Klintemåla. From here it is not far to the stage goal, the overnight cottage in Stjärneberg.

The cabin is only accessible to hikers on the East Coast Trail. For information about the cabin, see overnight cabin Stjärneberg
