Yamossen, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Hallands län
Actions
Description
Yamossen is a bog and forest area by Lake Jällunden, southwest of Jälluntofta. The bog contains both open areas with, among other things, bog lily, as well as swamp forests and wooded bog islands. There is also old beech forest next to the bog. Here you can get a nature experience with a wilderness feel in an area characterized by silence, stillness and undisturbed.
The forest is dominated by pine, which is generally old or very old. There are a large number of impressive Scots pines, six of which have recently been measured to be between 230 and 300 years old. Both the coniferous and beech forests contain plenty of coarse dead wood, both standing and lying.
The bog was previously used as fodder land
South of the highway, pine bogs dominate, as in the northern parts of the reserve on both sides of Lake Lille. Here it can be assumed that the bog and the forest in the past were subject to all the uses that were customary during the time of subsistence, such as bog mowing, forest grazing, burning, cutting for firewood, fencing and timber, peat mining, etc. As late as the beginning of the 20th century, the bog should have been mostly completely open, but with sparsely standing pine trees that were already quite old at that time, on the bog islands and in the oldest swamp forests today. During the 20th century, and especially in the latter half of the century, large parts of the bog landscape have grown back with forest. Overgrowth has probably been going on ever since grazing and wetland mowing ceased.
