Kindaholmsturen

In the hinterland of West Sweden, in Svenljunga municipality, awaits Kindaholmsturen - a cycling tour that takes you through a landscape where nature and history meet along the way. Here you cycle on a mixture of gravel and asphalt roads through open farmland, forest areas and small villages that bear traces of previous generations.

The terrain is relatively flat, which makes the tour easily accessible, and you set your own pace. In the far south you reach Fegen Nature Reserve, where the rich bird life makes the area a popular place for both rest and exploration. The last stretch from Mårdaklev follows the Ätrans valley through a varied landscape before rolling back to Östra Frölunda.

Along the entire trip there are opportunities to stop - for a break by the water, a visit to a cultural environment or perhaps an overnight stay.

The tour starts at the church in Östra Frölunda. From here you roll out into the countryside and follow the road towards Svenljunga before turning off towards Håcksvik. Soon you pass Ätran and leave the village behind you.

After a few kilometers, the landscape opens up and the road leads you on through quiet surroundings. At Gravsjön there are nice resting places right by the water - a natural place to stop for a while.

Along the way you will also pass Kvarnagården from the late 1800s, where the Mårtensson brothers once made furniture.

When you reach Håcksvik, you are met by a village with a living cultural heritage. Here you can see farmhouse paintings in Klockaregården, visit a flea market or look into the small tourist information.

From Håcksvik you continue towards Burseryd and then turn onto a gravel road that takes you deeper into the landscape. Here the cycling becomes more natural, with forest and lakes following you along the way.

On the left is Gammalsjö mill, and further ahead the lakes around Kalv spread out - a quiet part of the trip where nature is allowed to take place.

Tip: Feel free to make a detour to Gammalsjö manor and Kummeludden. There are both ancient monuments and views of the Fegen area.

When the gravel road ends, turn left towards Kalv. In the small village of Kalv there are both services and opportunities to stop - hostel, swimming area, camping and shop.

After the bridge in Kalv awaits Postabacken, a short but noticeable climb. Then you continue towards Mårdaklev through a landscape characterized by bogs and marshes. Soon you reach the church in Mårdaklev.

Before you cycle on, you can take the opportunity to make a detour to Klev's nature and cultural area, which is just nearby.

Then the tour continues over the bridge at Mårdaklev and further along gravel roads that follow the Ätrans valley. Here the landscape alternates between forest and open land - and with a little luck you may spot a moose.

When the gravel road ends, continue north on an asphalt road towards Östra Frölunda. On the way you pass the ruins of Kindahus, believed to have been built around 1250 - a reminder of the area's long history.

Shortly afterwards, Ätran meets the road again. You turn over the bridge and make your way back up towards Östra Frölunda, where the tour ends at the church.
