Description

Strömsholm is a fantastic destination by Lake Mälaren with old oak trees, a beautiful castle and horse paddocks. Here, a wonderful mix of equestrian sports, agriculture and outdoor life coexist with a teeming plant and animal life. Did you know that Strömsholm is home to over 170 species of endangered and threatened plants and animals?

Many people come here to visit the castle grounds and stroll around the beautiful landscape. There are several cafés and restaurants in the area. The nature reserve is located by Lake Mälaren, where you can swim and skate.

Strömsholm can be reached by bus, bike, boat and car.

The castle area, Djurgårdsskogen and Österängen The castle is open for visits during the summer. When the castle is not open, you can walk around the castle park and see the old trees and the kitchen garden. Around the castle there are many different paths and trails you can walk on. For example, there are three different trails in Djurgårdsskogen. Österängen is overflowing with wood anemones in the spring, and here you can walk around the horse fences used in the annual equestrian competitions.

Lagårdssjön Lagårdssjön is an extension of Kolbäcksån and here there is a viewing platform that can be reached by wheelchair. Here you can look for birds in the vast meadows along the shore. Large flocks of geese, ducks and waders rest here, especially during the spring floods.

Jordmarken There are various trails in Jordmarken. You can walk in a meadow among really old oaks where the flowers are abundant and butterflies flutter past.

Billingen There is a nature trail with information signs where you can read about the history and nature of Billingen. The trail runs through light deciduous forests and open pastures. You have a good chance of seeing different types of birds in the damp marshes between Billingen and Sandholmarna.
