Description

This water-powered mill was built in the 1880s when the mill was very active. Here, local farmers queued to grind their grain into flour. This flour was then sold in the village shop across the road. Listen carefully and you can hear impatient horses waiting to unload and return home to the farm, farmers swearing and grumbling and maybe even a drink or two.

The mill was powered by a turbine called the Horn Turbine. The water comes from below, hits the turbine and makes it rotate so that the millstones crush the grain into flour. The mill was taken out of service in the 1950s.

In today's computerized and mechanized existence, we can hardly understand what people in the past had to endure for their survival, they carried water, chopped wood and lifted stones to constantly improve their lives. We should be eternally grateful to our ancestors for the work that led to the comfortable life we lead today.

The house itself is bricked and plastered in a light yellow color that breaks nicely against the black seamed tin roof. Large red-painted windows allow the light to enter the house very nicely. In the basement we see many traces from the time as a mill. Foundations for shafts and machines, hooks and screw holes for everything needed to keep a mill running. For many years the mill was largely unused.

In 1997, however, Jädersbruksvänner took care of the house and a renovation has been carried out. The view upstream from the mill on a summer evening is purely magical when it gets cold and the raw fog comes, then it is easy to see a fairy or two dancing in the reed edge.
