Description

Old spruces are clustered tightly together. The ground is covered with green plants, and deciduous trees enjoy the damp ground. Thing grow quickly in the forests in Bågakälen nature reserve. Fast-growing forests are often heavily felled and are therefore uncommon. They are important for many different plants and animals.

The area comprises the northern part of the Bågakälen mountain, the eastern part of the Jämtlandskälen mountain and an area of mires called Stor-Lappmyran. Old spruces grow on the mire islands, many of them up to 200-300 years old.

A number of rare wood-inhabiting fungi have been found on old and dead trees. You may notice the faint aroma of liquorice from the Haploporus odorus during your walk.Bågakälen is situated approximately 5 km north-west of Mickelsträsk and 12 km south-west of Botsmark in Umeå Municipality. The area is easily accessible via a forest road from Mickelsträsk.
