Danshallmyren, Naturreservat

  • Nature reserve

Actions

Description

In this vast and varied wetland area, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the wilderness in summer.

The Danshallmyren reserve was established to preserve a bog complex and its natural forests and mires. This also protects the special biodiversity of these habitats and the wilderness character of the area. The land bears traces of both past settlements (Kojkilan) and forest fires. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.

Together with a neighboring Norwegian protected area, Saerkilamp, they both comprise a Swedish-Norwegian "wilderness area" of 1000 ha.

Animals and plants

The mire complex is unique and there are many mires and natural forest islands. The area is home to hanging lichens, woodland mushrooms, capercaillie, lichen jay and barn owl - all species that depend on large areas of natural forest for their survival.

Before your visit

At Kojkilantjärnen in the center of the reserve there is an open resting cabin and an information sign.
