Description

Tunåsen is part of Uppsalaåsen and about 30 meters high. When you get to the top, you are rewarded with fantastic views of Uppsala and the surrounding clay plains. To the south you can see Uppsala Cathedral in the distance and to the northeast Old Uppsala Church.

Tunåsen is a perfect place for a picnic, with a view! At the top there are picnic tables and plenty of space for a picnic blanket.

Pebble ridges are dry places, at least on the surface. And because there have been grazing animals on the ridge, perhaps for as long as 100 years, there is a special dry hillside flora. On the slopes of Tunåsen you can see, among other things, tar flowers, thyme, wood anemone and the exclusive axveronica. These plants are in turn valuable for butterflies and other insects.

A good starting point for the visit is Gamla Uppsala with both Gamla Uppsala museum and Disagården.

Take the city bus out to Gamla Uppsala to the stop Kungshögarna. Follow Eriksleden south along the eastern side of Kungshögarna. Timetables and bus numbers can be found at www.ul.se

Tunåsen is located just south of Kungshögarna in Gamla Uppsala.

Cycling or walking: Follow Eriksleden, a 6 km long pilgrimage trail between Uppsala Cathedral and Gamla Uppsala Church. The trail passes the eastern side of Tunåsen.

By car: Take road 290 to Gamla Uppsala. Park at Kungshögarna. From here it is just under 1 km walk along Eriksleden south to Tunåsen.
