Description

In and around Uppsala there are eight Linnaeus trails, reconstructions of Linnaeus' own excursion routes. Gamla Uppsalavandringen leads you over a mile from the city and out into nature. Follow the hike across the flat plain up the bone-dry ridge and all the way to the mysterious rocking Sjödyn. The hike follows trails, cycle paths and country roads. You don't have to do the whole hike at once, you can visit one place at a time. It is also possible to cycle large parts of the route.

The Linnaeus Trail starts at the so-called Svartbäckstullen. In Linnaeus' time, the site was located at the end of the city, now it is in the center of Uppsala. You walk along the river and pass the Fyrishov bathhouse. At Röboåsen you reach new heights! If you can make it up, you will be rewarded with a fine view. During the spring, hillside lilies light up the ground in abundance. A little further on you come to the Gamla Uppsala mounds. These fascinating mounds cannot fail to attract attention in the otherwise mostly flat Uppsala. The flower meadows of the mounds have been tended by grazing animals for thousands of years.

At the end of the walk, you can follow the footbridge to the edge of the swaying Sjödyn. Jump a little carefully next to the footbridge and you'll feel why it's called gungfly!

Gamla Uppsalavandringen is 12 km long and has five junctions to discover. At the junctions there is information about the place and the opportunity to call Linnaeus and hear him talk about what the landscape looked like in his time. Read more about the sites on the Linnaeus Trails website.

Gamla Uppsalavandringen is also a treasure hunt, a so-called multicache, where you can use clues to collect coordinates to the treasure. [Read more about how it works in the leaflet Gamla Uppsalavandringen (https://www.linnestigarna.se/gamla_uppsala/linne_gauppsalastigen_folder_sv_web_2014.pdf).
