Description
If you visit Uppsala Kungsäng Nature Reserve in mid-May, you will be greeted by a magnificent sight. A large area spreads out in front of you, dotted with purple and white flowers. It's Uppland's landscape flower, the Kungsäng lily, which grows here in its thousands, the largest population in the Nordic region. It was here in Kungsängen that Sweden's first discovery of the wild meadow lily was made. It had probably spread here from the Botanical Garden in Uppsala.
Kungsängen is located on the eastern side of the Fyrisån river, in the Uppsala Kungsäng and Årike Fyris nature reserves. In addition to flowers, there are plenty of birds here. In the meadow barn next to the pastures there is an exhibition and information about Kungsängen.
You are not allowed to go into the reserve itself, but you can experience the flowers from one of the paths outside. One of the Linnaeus trails, Danmarksvandringen, passes by Kungsängen. It is 16 km long and goes from the harbor in Uppsala out to Linnaeus Hammarby.
Services: Parking, information signs, meadow barn with exhibition.
Responsible for maintenance: SLU on behalf of the County Administrative Board. The meadow barn is managed by Uppsala municipality.
