Description

The Iggelbo nature reserve is located on the northern shore of Lake Tämnaren. Even well into the 20th century, Iggelbo was a well-used agricultural landscape. Hay was taken from all the wet fields, there were several small fields and the cows grazed in the forest. Today, only the meadow and parts of the giant fields are kept open by mowing. On the edge of the meadow grows a rarity - the long fescue.

The reserve has a forest of large spruces, an oak hill with stately oaks and an enormous lime tree at the parking lot. In spring, you will be greeted by a wealth of flowers, including cowslips and cowslips. You can find typical grove plants, such as horsetail, thistle and witch hazel. You can also find the lesser spotted woodpecker, which thrives in old forest.

From the parking lot you can follow a nature trail, 0.5 km to the viewpoint and barbecue area at Hällholmen. The nature trail then continues in a loop back to the parking lot. You can also walk along paths through birch forest to the windbreak and fireplace at Förnäset. Tämnaren, the county's largest lake, is shallow, which means that it is very rich in birds. Here you can see large flocks of resting geese and ducks during spring and fall. Coots and mute swans nest, and brown harriers take their leave of the water.

Every year, the Giant Fields and the Meadow, two of the former open areas, are mown with a horse-drawn mower. The meadow was long used as a football pitch by local youth. How the Giant Fields got their name is unfortunately not known. Nor are they, despite their name, particularly large.

Parking is available where the road ends, at the entrance to the reserve.

The nearest bus stop is Iggelbo vägskäl, 1.4 km from the reserve entrance. Follow the road towards the nature reserve.

From the E4, take exit 192 towards Månkarbo and Östervåla. Follow the road towards Månkarbo. When you reach the next junction, with road 600, turn right, still towards Månkarbo. A bit into the community, turn left where there are signs for Östervåla and the nature reserve. After 5 km turn left at the sign for the nature reserve. Drive about 2 km to the reserve.

In the reserve it is forbidden to:

dig, hoe or otherwise damage the ground surface
break branches, cut down or otherwise damage living or dead trees and shrubs
digging, chopping or flaying bark, moss and lichen or similarly causing damage in and on trees, woody plants or woody debris
digging up plants or otherwise removing or damaging plants or plant parts of any kind, with the exception of picking flowers, edible mushrooms and berries
deliberately disturbing wildlife (e.g. by climbing trees), trapping, killing or removing animals, removing eggs or nests
riding, cycling, camping or bringing dogs or other pets that are not leashed
drive a motorized vehicle or land an aircraft
use a radio, tape recorder, musical instrument or similar in a disruptive manner
light a fire outside designated areas
