Svanviken-Lindbacke naturreservat

Popular hiking area for all nature lovers. Once upon a time it was a place for kings. Today's royalty in the reserve are flowers, plants, insects and birds.

Svanviken

A trail leads from the parking lot to a viewing platform. The trail is adapted for the disabled and also goes out into the swamp forest area. From the platform you get a good view of the bird life on the pastures. The Sörmlandsleden trail goes past the reserve to the north.

The area has been inhabited for a long time. There are traces of old fields and burial grounds from the Iron Age. In the 16th century, Kungsladugården delivered grain and other goods to Nyköpingshus Castle. A map from the 18th century shows that Lindbacke was part of a larger pasture, which the town's burghers leased. The meadows were partly hay meadows that provided hay for the winter.

As the land has risen, the bay has become a wetland. Many birds rest here in spring and fall.

Lindbacke

Today, it is the plants and animals that rule the lands of Svanviken and Lindbacke. Birds in particular thrive in the area. Lindbacke has become a popular walking area for all nature lovers, and the nature reserve is home to a wide variety of flowers, plants, insects and birds. The land has been both dry and poor for centuries, so it is still used as grazing land for cattle.
