Description
Himmelsberg is a nature reserve located between Skällinge and Rolfstorp. It is a forested peaked mountain that rises in the beautifully idyllic Skärtedalen. A visit to Himmelsberg is suitable for those who do not mind a hilly environment, want to get out in beautiful oak environments and perhaps sit down for a while and look out over the surrounding area.
The Himleån river meanders through the landscape with adjacent mill remains and power stations. The sometimes quite steep mountainsides are covered with oak forest whose trees become smaller and "scratchy" the further up you go and the soil cover becomes thinner.
High natural values
Forest signal species grow on several of the trees, which indicates that there are high natural values here. Examples of species found in the reserve are the trap moss, goldilocks moss and oak bark.
Paths to the viewpoint
A number of unmarked paths lead through the reserve, one of which goes up to a viewpoint in the south. There you can look out over Skärtedalen, which according to Varberg municipality's cultural environment program is one of the municipality's most beautiful views.
Historical remains from the Bronze and Iron Ages
Historical remains in the form of burial cairns from the Bronze and Iron Ages can be found on Himmelsberg's summit, as well as stone fences that run through the forest and bear witness to previous land use. In the past, grazing animals roamed the forest, but now they only stay in the pastures on the top of the mountain. Large and beautiful pasture trees also grow here.
