S:t Martin

The architect is Jerk Alton, who designed the interior of St. Martin’s Church to symbolize the four elements of existence. The rich, earthy colors; the oak leaves on the chandelier; the waterways on the marble floor; the capitals of the columns resembling palm fronds. Light and air blend with earth and water.

An icon of Saint Martin adorns the wall. Behind the rustic central altar hangs a medieval altarpiece (circa 1500) that originally hung in the demolished church at Näsby. The triumphal crucifix (circa 1320) also comes from there and hung for many years in Rystad Church. These two medieval objects provide a fine contrast to the modern interior.
