Description
Latåsen Nature Reserve is located on an east-facing slope where pine and spruce trees grow. There are no paths in the area, so here you have to wander on your own. An old tractor road leads to the south-eastern corner of Latåsen. The area is located about 5 kilometers southeast of Åmot and covers a 19-hectare natural forest area. As a whole, the reserve consists of forest with natural forest character.
The area consists of a coniferous forest on an east-facing slope with high natural values linked to both spruce and pine. There are also some elements of deciduous trees in the area, mainly birch, but also occasional large aspens, dead aspen and old willow. There are plenty of lying dead trees in various stages of decomposition and dead standing trees in the reserve. Several red-listed species have been found here, such as the violet-gray thorn lichen, the flesh tick and the woolly tick.
In connection with Latåsen, there are several cultural remains in the form of charcoal kilns and the foundations of charcoal pits, which show that the area has been used for a long time. Despite the history of human impact, the forest in Latåsen nature reserve has largely retained a natural forest-like character.
Latåsen Nature Reserve has been made possible thanks to the private landowner's own initiative for protection.
