Guided Tour of Drottningskär Fortress

Join us for a guided tour of Drottningskär Fortress and learn more about one of the finest examples of Swedish fortification architecture.

Construction of Drottningskär Fortress began in conjunction with the establishment of the new naval base at Karlskrona in 1680. Defending the entrance to the naval harbor was of the utmost importance, which is why fortresses were built on either side of the entrance: Kungsholm Fort on Tjurkö and Drottningskär Castle on Aspö.

During the tour, you’ll learn more about the site’s history, why the fort was built, and what makes this fortification so unique. The walking tour is led by one of Karlskrona’s World Heritage guides and takes about an hour.
