Description
The bar walkway is marked in yellow.
The trail starts at the former wheelhouse (ruin) on the shore of Göksjön and essentially follows the former bar passage to the mines at Bredsjönäs. Here and there you will see foundations and iron stays that once held the bar passage in place.
The barrage, which operated between 1879 and 1896, provided power to pump water out of the mine holes. The barrage ends at the Bredsjönäs mining area, which is cleared and therefore easy to get an idea of what it once looked like. Signs at the site will help you. Iron ore mining began as early as the 17th century in this area and the last mine holes closed in 1925.
The trail then continues to the so-called Seven Holes, which are smaller and shallow mine holes formed by burning the rock and then pouring on cold water so that cracks were formed and the ore could be broken off. The depth is between 20 and 30 meters. There are also remains of an "ox walk" and a mine chamber.
On the way back to the starting point of the trail, you walk through the forest past Mossjön and along a narrow blasted canal, which once brought water to the wheelhouse.
Where the wheelhouse once stood, there is an exhibition that tells about the water wheel and the bar passage.
