Description

In Ormbacka you can walk in an old cultural landscape grazed by sheep. People have probably lived here since the Late Bronze Age, making Ormbacka one of the oldest settlements in Järfälla.

Ormbacka croft north of the greenhouses is known from the early 18th century. There is Järfälla's first transformer station, built in brick in 1919 for power from Älvkarleby power station. It is easy to spot where it stands out in the open landscape. It is one of the few old transformer stations left in Stockholm County.

The runestone that disappeared

There are two rune stones near Ormbacka. The small stone disappeared and it turned out that it had been used as a stepping stone to the Lindalen croft. Now it is back in its original place.

A large burial ground from the Iron Age is located in the forest area north of Ormbacka croft. The burial ground consists of about 20 earth mounds and about 45 round stone circles.

"Krrri" or "klyy"

You can find oblong woodpecker holes on pines and aspens in the forest. That's the woodpecker that has been there. A funny thing about the woodpecker is that when it flies it calls "krrri krrri krri", but as soon as it sits down it changes the sound to a long "klyyyyy".

Those interested in running will find an electric light trail of 1.8 kilometers in the forest area towards Järfällavägen. Adjacent to the area's entrance is an outdoor gym for those who want to exercise in nature. There are also several well-trodden paths and many hut buildings to check out.
