Ornö: Nybysjöområdet

The Nybysjö area gives a barren and wild impression and it is one of the most untouched areas on the whole of Ornö. Around the lake there are vast forests to wander in and in the lake you can have a nice swim or look for beavers. The forests are also excellent berry and mushroom fields. The area around Nybysjön has a remarkable wilderness character for the Stockholm archipelago. The landscape is very hilly, with tall spruce forests and a myriad of marshes filling in the hollows. On the mountains, ancient pine forests grow in white lichen mats. The loon nests on the lake's islands and the osprey has built its nest in a sturdy pine tree. In the summer nights, the purring of the nightjar can be heard from the rocky outcrops.
