Description

Molnsättra is part of an old open agricultural landscape. Molnsättra farm has roots dating back to the Middle Ages. Cows and horses still graze here.

Take the bike to Bodaäng and walk out over the pastures. Here, 600-year-old oaks grow together with hazel bushes and large pines. The oaks are magnificent and many of them are hollow.

On the trunks, you can see the large and bright yellow fungus sulphur tick. It feeds on the oak, which slowly rots from the inside. But it's a slow process - an oak with sulfur ticks can live for several hundred years. Another fungus that grows on oak trunks is the oxtongue fungus. It is reddish and both looks and feels like a large moist tongue.

Because the land is kept open by grazing animals, several unusual plants, insects and bird species can live here. Meadow bell, meadowsweet and cuckoo flower are some of the flowers that thrive here.

A happy little bird

If you come here in the spring, you can also look for the little stonechat bird. It is light gray and has a black mask over its eyes. The stonechat is a bird with small demands on life. As long as there are a few rocks lying in the open ground, it is happy. Nor does it matter whether the stones are in Skåne or high up in the mountains.

The land in the nature reserve is privately owned. Remember to take into account the privacy zone, grazing animals and other activities on the farm.

The Järvaleden trail runs through Molnsättra nature reserve. You can follow it north or south to reach other parts of Järvafältet.
