Facts

Nature in the reserve

Hillside pine forest

On the ridge of the mountain there are barren rocky areas with many gnarled pines with elements of oak, birch, rowan and spruce. In the wetter areas, the ground cover consists of mosses and plants that can withstand changes between dry and wet periods. In the drier areas, there are lichens and low-growing brambles of lingonberry, hemlock and bilberry. The pine forest is home to rare species such as the pine tick, the woolly tick, the wood bustard, the small horned moss and the green shield moss.

Coniferous deciduous forest

The slopes are home to a lush broadleaf forest consisting of oak, hazel, lime, ash, maple and occasional specimens of wood elm. On the ground, in some places, you can find unusual plants such as the larkspur, musk madder, larkspur, the grass larkspur, larkspur and the more unusual gravel larkspur. Among the richer grove flora are, for example, undergrowth violet, horsetail and desm bud.

Wildlife

There are bird species such as raven, green wren, woodpecker and great and lesser spotted woodpecker. Several demanding species of birds of prey visit the woodland.

Rare mushrooms

A very rare and critically endangered fungus has also been found in the reserve, the Salt Earth Star. The critically endangered hedgehog mushroom has also been found there.

Excursion destination

Many people go to Klövberget to discover the caves, walk, swim by the rocks and enjoy the beautiful views of Kalvfjärden. There is a staircase to get to the Klövberget viewpoints. There is also a barbecue area adjacent to the water and the cave system. There is a boat club in the area with a jetty and small pleasure boats.

Klövberget is about 1.5 km wide and lies about 10-65 meters above the water surface. The mountain faces Kalvfjärden and is therefore also a good viewing area. Klövberget, especially the fault slope and the caves, are sensitive to wear and tear. Therefore, the area is unsuitable for camping, camps with larger groups and intensive rock climbing and similar activities.

The cave system

Down at the base of the fault line there is a block cave system. The cave system is the best developed fault cave in the Stockholm area and measures almost 300 meters, which makes it one of Sweden's longest known rock caves. Inside the cave live bats, several species of butterflies and various insects, including the so-called basement spider, Meta menardi.

Parking

If you are traveling by car towards Brevik on Breviksvägen, drive to Trinntorp, turn right onto Tegelbruksvägen and after 200 meters turn left onto Mokärrsvägen. The parking lot can accommodate about 8 cars.

To reach the southern entrance, there are sometimes bus tours to Ällmora.

Otherwise, a possible route is to go to Mossvägen in Brevik, but then it is about 2 km walk to the entrance via Noretvägen.
