Description
In the troll forest at Grönsta you can get a real big forest feeling. The area is rich in both plants and insects, and in September it is full of runners because the finish line of the Lidingö race is at Grönsta gärde.
The entire area is criss-crossed by tracks and paths, in some places hilly and difficult to access, such as the slopes down towards Grönstakolonin with wild nature. This is one of the most quiet and unspoiled areas on Lidingö.
At Trolldalen there is a swamp forest and Karins Mosse, west of the Näset district, is the island's most studied place when it comes to insects. Here 230 different species of beetles have been found. more than 300 different butterflies, most of which are moths, and 100 different wasps - so don't forget your mosquito repellent. Karins Mosse is also home to some 15 different mosses and 10 fern species. In the surrounding forest there are several so-called key biotopes, forest land with extra high natural values. In the area you will also find Mulletjärnen, which is a small wetland and nearby is the windbreak Örnnästet. On the northern slopes down towards Askrikefjärden there are old foundations for artillery pieces from the Second World War.
On Grönsta gärde stands the Löparmonumentet, a sculpture made and donated by Sven Lundqvist. Nearby is Grönstakolonin, which was established in 1910. The area is popularly known as the Psalm Book because a narrow stream divides the colony into two parts and the buildings lie like an encyclopedia on either side of the stream. The area has retained much of its original character.
Grönsta also has several cultural monuments, including Täcka udden, which used to be an experimental workshop for the inventor Carl Richard Nyberg, one of the pioneers of Swedish aviation.
