Fornlämning 2 - Gravfält, bebyggelse- och odlingslämningar från Vikingatiden vid Kaknäs

At Kaknäs there is a very unusual archaeological environment with traces of a complete settlement environment from the Late Iron Age (Viking Age).

The burial ground consists of a total of 30 graves and is built on the crest of a moraine ridge. Most of the graves are located on a slight eastern slope facing a former sea bay. Within the cemetery there are a few older trenches, the largest of which is buried in the largest mound of the cemetery.

In 1932, a smaller mound on the eastern side of the burial ground was investigated. In the mound a fire layer was found with burnt bones and rivets with rhombic rivet washers. At the bottom were two pottery vessels. The finds are typically Viking Age.

Directly south of the burial ground on a gentle slope are the remains of a settlement area. The area is bounded to the south by Kaknäsvägen. Most clearly visible are two terraces with stone edges that are about 12-14 meters long and about 7-8 meters wide. To the east of these is a longer terracing in an almost north-south direction that can accommodate more house remains. To the south and southwest there are parts of a terracing or house foundation where large parts have been excavated during road construction.

West of and slightly below the settlement area there are cultivated areas with, among other things, occasional cairns.
