Description
Eriksömaren, a small shallow wetland at the entrance to the Eriksö recreation area. The wetland was created during the land uplift when it was separated from Tallaröfjärden. Nowadays there is about 100 meters between them. The natural wetland is surrounded by shrubbery and alder forest and is an important refuge for birds, frogs and salamanders. Moisture-loving plants such as bladderwrack, caveldun, meadow grass and sword lily thrive here.
Eriksömaren has been restored to improve water quality in the coastal waters. The wetland acts as a kind of water purifier. When polluted stormwater (containing metals, particles and nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen) flows through the marsh, substances and particles settle and the plants take up nitrogen and phosphorus.
At Eriksömaren you can find a place to recover, a place to settle down. Listen and catch your breath. (Swimming and fishing are not permitted).
