Description

Eskil, an English monk in the 11th century, went from Tuna (Eskilstuna) to Strängnäs to preach. His message was not well received and he was stoned to death. Legend has it that when he was carried back to Eskilstuna for burial, a spring burst forth just outside Strängnäs.

According to the legend, the spring appeared when the bishop, who had been stoned to death, was set down by the old bridleway to Eskilstuna, where he was to be buried.
