Description
Iron ore mining had already begun in the 17th century
at Lake Bredsjön. Here there was an ore vein, which stretched
under the waters of Lake Bredsjön, exposed in the rocky area south
of the lake at the so-called Långbromossen and further towards
Älgsjöbacken. But because the holes were very waterlogged
they were soon abandoned
In the 17th century, mining took place at the
so-called Seven Holes which we will later pass on our
hike.
Bredsjönäs mine was in operation until
1925, when it had reached a depth of 100 meters. The
constantly dripped from the walls, even though the largest gaps
were sealed with lead sheeting.
