Ulva dam

Sometime several thousand years ago, the water broke through the gravel ridge at this very spot. As the land rose, less than 1000 years ago, this strip of land rose out of the water. The place was later named Ulva dam after a legend that the wolf used to cross here.

The regulation of the water flow between lower Marviken and Visnaren probably took place as early as the 17th century to regulate the water flow to Visnaren and on to Råckstaån. The purpose was to be able to supply Åkers Krutbruk with hydropower while making the surrounding areas less waterlogged and therefore more navigable for transportation to and from Åkers Styckebruk. Regulation was also important for timber floating to the sawmill at Forssa, which continued from the end of the 19th century until the 1950s.

Many of the transports of ore and charcoal also crossed here on their way to Åkers Styckebruk. The crossing is still evident and is used today to lift canoes between the lakes.
