Sankt Anna naturreservat

The St. Anna Nature Reserve is located at the far end of the St. Anna archipelago and is dominated by extensive shallow marine areas that host a diversity of different marine environments such as lagoons, reefs, mussel beds, eelgrass beds and bladderwrack belts. This diversity is of great importance for the local fish, bird and seal populations. Only about 1% of the reserve consists of islands, islets and skerries. Woodlands, shrublands and meadows are most developed and varied on the inner islands and skerries, but the vegetation gradually declines and the further out you go, the islets and skerries are almost completely bare. Meadow farming and livestock farming have characterized several of the area's islands for centuries. Even today, livestock keep the landscape open and rich in species. Birdlife is very rich with nesting geese, ducks, waders, gulls, auks and warblers. Several islets and skerries have been fertilized by birds, which leaves its mark on the plant life with colourful and interesting flora. You can reach the reserve by boat or kayak.
