Description
At the beginning of the 18th century, the plague swept through Sweden. As there was a rush to bury the dead, it was common for plague victims to be buried on unconsecrated land.
In 1711, the plague came to Northern Vi and the first to be affected were the family on the Högmålen homestead. Only mother Gunnel was left alive, and she had her family buried in a place 400 meters southeast of the farm settlement. Today, this place is surrounded by a fence and is called Pestkyrkogården. You can read more about this tragic event at the site.
