Agenda 2030 Mål 14: Hav och marina resurser

Åtvidaberg does not have a coast, so the work here is mainly about preventing pollution and litter from entering the water system and thus sooner or later reaching the sea (target 14.1).

The water that ends up in the stormwater system goes untreated to our waterways and then eventually to the sea. Therefore, always be careful not to throw litter, cigarette butts or flush chemicals down storm drains.

One thing to remember is not to wash your car on the street, even if you use eco-labeled cleaning products. Instead, park your car on a grassy area to prevent harmful pollutants from reaching the water system and allow much of it to break down in the soil. Or, ideally, wash your car in a car wash with purification.

Through the municipality's exercise of authority and supervision under environmental legislation, companies and individuals are required to reduce pollution to water. The municipality also provides information on how local residents can reduce their impact on water systems.

In 2021, a project has been carried out within Storån's water council where measures have been implemented to counteract the effects of eutrophication in four lakes within the municipality. Reduced nutrient loads in our lakes lead to reduced nutrient discharges to the sea.
