Description
During the 17th century there was an active iron working community here. Here were the important resources to be able to produce iron: Sjömalm in Tiken, forest for charcoal production and hydropower in Bräkneån. Today this is a very scenic area and a nice place for a picnic! There is also an interesting cultural trail to walk here. This place is interesting as you go through woodland and remains of human activities from the last 500 years. The ironworks at the rapids in Bräkneån, just below the outlet from Lake Tiken, developed at the end of the 17th century. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the area around Stenfors housed several different mills and mill operations. Today, Stenfors mill is an abandoned industrial landscape by Bräkneån. Here you can walk around the cultural trail and see a large number of ruins from the mill's various activities, both forges, other workshops and storage buildings.
