Description

Visitors to Rönnö are greeted by a large area of untouched bog and old natural forest. Some of the trees are around 200 years old. Capercaillie, black grouse, wood pigeon and unusual mosses, lichens and fungi thrive here. Hike on one of the trails and enjoy the surroundings and tranquillity.

Rönnö is located on both sides of the border between Halland and Kronoberg counties. Side by side there are deciduous forest, mixed forest, coniferous forest, swamp forest and several different types of marshes. This mixture is unusual in this part of the country. This is why Rönnö is considered a very valuable reserve. It will continue to be so, not least as the natural forest gets older. It is also important to manage the area by felling spruce plantations, clearing spruce and reintroducing forest grazing.

Trails and paths

The reserve is far from major roads and some areas are currently difficult to get to without boots and a little patience. But in Rönnö there are several trails to hike. There are two hiking trails, a yellow loop that is 5.3 kilometers and a white loop that is 6.2 kilometers long. Here you can walk for hours along both winding forest paths and solid gravel roads.

The reserve is great to visit all year round. In spring, the beech forest is buzzing with birdsong and in the fall there is a good chance that the path is lined with chanterelles. Along the tracked trail through marsh and swamp, there is also a good chance of seeing moose grazing at the edge of the forest. If you choose to walk the trail to the south, you will pass Gadebäcken, which babbles soothingly. For those who want to stay overnight in the reserve, it is possible to bring the tent, it is allowed to camp for a day in accordance with the right of public access.

Stamp in the reserve

In some of our most attractive reserves, you can also collect a nice stamp when you visit the reserve. You stamp either directly in your guidebook or on your own paper/book. In Rönnö, the stamp can be found along the white trail, at the junction with the detour to Kullasten.

Reserve with clear cultural traces

In Rönnö, traces of human activity are visible in several places. Stone walls embedded in the beech forest, now covered with shimmering green mosses, testify to the work of enclosing the farm environments and keeping the animals at a distance. At old crofting sites, there are trees that were previously felled and now bear rough branches. The foundations of houses can be seen, one of the more well-documented is "Lena's", which you can read about on one of many beautifully executed information signs about the reserve's cultural monuments.

Carnivorous plants and ant lily

The bogs are large and almost untouched. Here the marsh lily blooms in yellow and the bellflower in purple. In places, the white tussocks of the tufa give the area a shimmer. If you look closer at the boots, you can see one of the three species of sundew found in Sweden. They are carnivorous plants whose leaves are adorned with long, beautiful purple glands that secrete a tough, transparent mucus. This traps insects that are eventually dissolved by the enzymes secreted by the glandular hairs.

Behold the bird

In the south there is an area called Baggabygget. Old beech and oak forests grow here. On the trunks are various mosses, lichens and fungi that indicate that there has been forest here for a very long time. The ground is littered with decaying flames, and here and there are stumps and hollow trees where woodpeckers and other burrowers have found a home. A number of other birds, such as goshawks, buzzards, barn owls and flycatchers, also thrive in these environments and can be seen in the area. If you are lucky, in spring you can see and hear the capercaillie playing in the more coniferous areas of the reserve.

Mighty migratory block

Just a few meters outside the reserve, there is a mighty boulder on top of a small mountain. The block is called "Rungehall" and can (even by the poorly built) be set in motion.
