Description

Uvaklöva is maybe on of the most surprising destinations in Uppvidinge. The surrounding landscape doesn’t hint about what lays ahead until suddenly the ground opens to a gorge. Uvaklöva´s ravine is only a around hundred metres long and twelve metres deep but its still very impressive. Tales says that the ravine used to be deeper and that it used to be covered in snow and ice up until midsummer!

There’re big differences in the microclimate in the ravine. The north side is dry and warm, but the south side is wetter and covered in a variety of mosses and liches. Don’t miss the little brook at the bottom of the ravine that occasionally disappears under all vegetation.

The ravine was formed 12 000 years ago when the last continental glacier melted and the water shaped the land.

Parking

Parking at Höneströmsdammen. From here there is a kilometer-long path. White markings around trees show the direction. After 500 meters the path splits, take the left. Shortly afterwards there is a short but gentle section that may require rubber boots. At the edge of the ravine, the path balances above the cliff.

Directions

Just south of Alsterfors along the road towards Målerås, a small sign points towards Höneskruv. Follow the road to Höneström. Southwest of the dam there is a signposted parking lot where the path to Uvaklöva begins.
