Lake Åsnen

Åsnen offers a magnificent meeting between contrasting biotopes. This nature reserve has everything from summery beech forests and bright apple orchards to rugged pine bogs and northerly marshes where grouse mate. The range of biotopes also includes a unique lake archipelago with quiet waters and undisturbed islands. The environment is of national interest, and includes the county's unique Åsnen National Park. White-tailed eagles, ospreys and black-throated divers are some of the area's main attractions. There are also rare lichens, mushrooms and insects. Discover the diversity of nature here, on a bicycle or in a canoe, or walk along impressive hiking trails and paths.

Help us stop the spread of the plant known as Nymphoides peltata (sjögull), which has the ability to adapt to various biotopes, and spreads both through natural growth and from its seeds. In order not to spread this plant any further in Åsnen, we all need to do our part.

• Don't let your boat or canoe approach any Nymphoides peltata colonies.

• Do not fish in or near places where Nymphoides peltata is growing. Don't swim there either. This can be dangerous as the growth there is very dense.

• Do not spread Nymphoides peltata to other lakes or bodies of water. Do not move the plant and be careful when you move boats, canoes, fishing equipment from a body of water with Nymphoides peltata to other bodies of water. Clean these objects thoroughly so that no parts of Nymphoides peltata are also brought along.

• If you have Nymphoides peltata in your pond, it must not be moved to any other body of water.

Notify the County Administration of Kronoberg if you need advice or assistance in combatting this plant. New appearances of Nymphoides peltata must be reported to the County Administration at 010-223 70 00.
