The best swimming spots this summer
Kalmar Kommun offers a fantastic variety of bathing spots – from central urban oases to beaches surrounded by nature. Whether you’re looking for child-friendly beaches, adventure or quiet coves for an evening dip, there’s something for everyone. Here we’ve selected ten bathing spots, each with its own unique character.
Popular and central
- Kattrumpan. A small but charming bathing spot right in the town centre. Perfect for a refreshing dip during a shopping trip or lunch break. Despite its size, it has a jetty and a sandy beach, as well as toilets and an outdoor shower.
- Kalmarsundsbadet. This bathing spot offers the town’s most beautiful views of Kalmar Castle and the strait. With a 180-metre-long jetty, a shallow bathing bay and an access ramp, this is a bathing spot suitable for most people. Every July, an international sand sculpture festival is held here, which is well worth a visit.

Family-friendly
- Ljungnäs swimming spot. North of Kalmar lies this bathing spot, which features a jetty, a shallow sandy beach and a large grassy area. There are toilets, picnic tables, a wind shelter and a barbecue. Take a walk south along the Kalmarsundsleden trail and you’ll find a specially designed wind shelter high up among the treetops.
- Vita Sands swimming spot. One of the municipality’s most child-friendly and well-equipped bathing spots, located at Vita Sands Camping in Hagby, south of Kalmar. With a large, shallow sandy beach and a long jetty, a large playground, mini-golf, a food stall, an ice-cream parlour and a kiosk, this is the ideal place for families with children to spend a whole day.
For the adventurous
- Stensö Flundran. From the seabed to the treetops. Here you can follow a snorkelling trail to discover life beneath the surface, hire a SUP or kayak and glide out into the sound, play mini-golf on land or climb high on a high-altitude adventure course. With several jetties, a sandy seabed and proximity to a camping kiosk, toilets and a fitness trail, this bathing spot is located in the Stensö outdoor recreation area.
- Långvikens swimming spot. Perfect for a full-day outing for active visitors, with a high diving platform offering heights of 5, 7.5 and 10 metres, beach volleyball and basketball courts, a climbing wall, a pump track, an outdoor gym and more. At certain times, there is also a wakeboard park open.
Peaceful and close to nature
- Svinö nature reserve. Just next to the Ölandsbron, you can combine a swim with walks through beautiful countryside, birdwatching and fishing. Here you’ll find rare tree species and ruins dating back to the 17th century. A perfect stop on your way to or from Öland.
- Ekenäs swimming spot. A hidden gem with clear water and a peaceful atmosphere. There is a jetty and a small sandy beach, as well as a toilet, a wind shelter, a barbecue and a wood-fired sauna available for hire, all overlooking the bay.
With dog or horse
- Rafshagen. At the very tip of the headland by Rafshagen campsite, there is a designated area for dogs with several small sandy beaches.
- Törnerums horse swimming. A small sandy beach with a smooth seabed, about 1.5 kilometres from the Udden Riding Club.
We’re hoping for lots of lovely swims this summer!
Here you’ll find more swimming spots, as well as places where dogs and horses can swim, throughout Kalmar Kommun. Which is your favourite spot?
